The CRT Glow: A Photo Archive Vol. 1: Consoles

$5.00

The CRT Glow: A Photo Archive Vol. 1: Consoles is a digital photo album intended as an overview of the CRT TV & monitor era (~1977 - 2000). It showcases the authentic look of games and software displayed on various CRT sets.

This volume contains:

  • more than 200 pages featuring high-resolution photos of live CRT screens
  • several CRT TVs and monitors
  • 10 different consoles, including icons such as NES, SNES, Genesis, Playstation ...
  • many games ranging from well known hits to obscure underdogs
  • comparison sections showcasing differences between various video inputs and CRT tech (e.g. RF vs composite vs S-Video vs RGB, or slot mask vs aperture grille)
  • PDF bookmarks for every page
  • tags for easy searching

Please note that the photos in the book are of much higher quality than the previews available on this website, due to web compression. The photos in the book are also highly zoomable, often to see details on the phosphor-level.

The CRT Glow: A Photo Archive is based on material contained in CRT SCR$ Project, a preservation initiative aimed at collecting high-resolution photos of live displays of CRT TVs and monitors.

The project is hosted on archive.org, where all the photos included in this book are available for free. The book itself is meant as a tangible reward for those wanting to support my work on this project, while also serving as a comprehensive overview of the CRT era.

The CRT SCR$ Project is a work in progress, and will be updated with new material in the near future, as well as the book. All the subsequent future editions of the book will be available for free to those who purchased it previously (you should get an automatic notice about new downloads).
